Since 2015, the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS) provides information and data about the chemical composition of the atmosphere all over the globe to the general population.
Here at the Stratospheric Modeling group of BIRA, we have been tasked to evaluate the different CAMS products related to the composition of the stratosphere.
Our procedure of evaluation always involves gathering independent observations of stratospheric chemistry coming either from satellites or balloon--borne soundings.
We then compare these observations with their equivalent from the CAMS products and produce statistical indicators showing their discrepancies.
Our contributions consist in :
-participation in the production of seasonal validation reports. Near Real Time products of CAMS are assessed every 3 months.
-evaluation of yearly re-analyses. Each year, CAMS produces a complete set of data covering the period going from 2004 to the current year and assimilating latest observations.
-testing new experimental development. Periodically, the development team of CAMS improves relevant processes involved in . We evaluate the potential .
