Stratospheric modelling and chemical weather groups at BIRA-IASB focus on the study of the ozone layer and its interaction with climate change. The group has developed the Belgian Assimilation System for Chemical ObErvations (BASCOE) which is used in model simulations to study the circulation of the stratosphere or to produce reanalysis of the stratospheric composition.
The group also contributes to the Copernicus Atmospheric Monitoring Service (CAMS) by contributing in the development of the stratospheric representation in the CAMS model or by evaluating the stratospheric composition of the CAMS products. Finally, the group also contributes to support future satellite mission like ALTIUS or CAIRT with dedicate model or data assimilation studies using BASCOE.
